In a game where outsized personalities can sometimes overshadow play, there is something about the way that John Heckencamp (pictured) carries himself that draws a second glance.

The owner of a Broken Arrow-area liquor store, Oklahoma Wine and Liquor, John commands attention, whether through his deliberate playing style or his fashion sense, which runs exclusively to pink. In a crowded playing field, he's difficult to miss, and based on his track record, he's definitely someone to watch.

After placing first in the the RunGood Poker Series-$230 Pot Limit Omaha Relays in Tulsa last February, John walked away with $12,705. Then in May, John took second in a three-way chop for $20,160 on the RunGood Championship Cruise.

Recently blessed with a daughter, John recognizes his priorities have shifted as a new father, stating his role now is "being the best father I can be." Still, he has a passion for the game and skills he continues to hone, attributing Justin Gardenhire for mentoring him and assisting him with the continued improvement of his game.
