Tai Du found the right card at the right time, hitting a royal flush to double up in the largest pot of Day 1B.
It was noted earlier today that there was the potential for fireworks on Table 20 with multiple players playing big stacks. Pete Petree did not end up being involved in the defining pot of Day 1B but Tai Du was as he took down a monster against Barbara Sargent by hitting a royal flush and cracking Sargent's aces in the process.
The hand in question started with Du opening for 3,600 with A♣K♣ and the player on his left calling the raise with 10♥9♥. Action folded to Sargent, who put in a three-bet to 28,500 with A♥A♠. Du called and the third player in the hand moved all-in for 1,000 more. Both players called and the flop came down Q♣10♣7♦. Sargent shoved for effectively 63,300 and Du called with his draws to himself at risk.
The call couldn't have worked out any better for Du as the J♣ came on the turn to end the hand and give Du the royal flush. Once the dust settled, Du was stacking up to 250,000, which is good enough for the chip lead while Sargent will have to climb back from 35,000.
