Saturday is upon us here at Hard Rock Tulsa with the World Series of Poker reaching its climax. Four rings were awarded yesterday that saw first time champions, repeat champions, and Ari Engel on the verge of setting history as outright circuit rings leader.

On the slate today is the second flight of the $1700 Main Event where a huge prizepool is brewing as well as the honor of having a Main Event banner put on display. The players of Day 1a came to an early halt as the field hit the 16% remaining hard stop with 13:16 left in Level 15. $212,100 was built up in today’s prizepool and it will only grow as tomorrow sees the final day of registration. The starting field of 140 entrants fell down to 22 as the night wrapped up, players to resume play.
Leading the way was Patrick Popowski who ended his day with 478,000. Despite a handful of WSOP cashes from Circuit to Series, a title has eluded him for a while. With his big bag, he is teeing himself up for a chance to run deep and secure a new best career. Following him in the leaderboard is Wesley Jones (468,000) who just this week secured his first WSOPC ring. Following the top three is newcomer to the tournament scene Hamilton Ngo (430,000) who made a habit chewing his bubble gum throughout the day.
Many other colorful characters found bags. Brent Gregory (415,000) who already has a first and a fourth this week in WSOPC events, found himself as the short stack for most of the day. Some patience paid off as he ran up a stack in the last level of the night to end just outside of the top three in his hunt for his third WSOPC ring. Another WSOPC winner Angela Jordison (388,000) late registered after a final table at the $400 Big O. She parlayed her winnings from one tournament into a massive stack as she looks to add another title to her already illustrious resume.

Dawson Darbouze (347,000) made a name for himself throughout the day as he had a very animated way to express himself after winning pots. Two times he won massive pots during the day. The first time against Andrew Todhunter, the second against former WSOPC Tulsa Main Event champion Will Berry. Each time the massive pot was pushed his way he began to channel the famous anime protagonist Goku as he screamed “Kamehameha!” at the top of his lungs. He spent large portions of the day as the chip leader, but the end of the day saw a few pots going away from his chip stack as he still landed in the top ten.
Others that found themselves still surviving as the clock ticked down were recent WSOPC champion Timothy “T.J.” Cunningham (224,000), Daniel Pigago (161,000), Daniel Hughes (154,000), and Kami Hudson (106,000), all of them looking to become the next WSOPC Tulsa Main Event Champion.
Fortunes did not shine on all as players like Will Berry, Terence Reid, Daniel Lowery, Dax Alexander, Joshua Brower, and Forrest Kollar. All of whom will have to look to tomorrow in their hope of bagging up this tournament.
With play ending at Level 15 with 13:16 left on the clock, the 22 players will return on Sunday at 12 pm and join the players from Day 1b. Barring an earlier finish of tomorrow’s flight, the tournament will resume at this time and play until the end of Level 26.
